Ideas for designing a themed school library

A new library space or the chance to revamp your existing library can be exciting, but it can also be a daunting task as well. There are many things to consider and so many choices to make. One being whether or not to take on a themed approach. To help, we have compiled a few themed school library themes for you to potentially choose from.

Space theme

As well as space-themed furniture and seating the library includes replica planets hanging from the ceiling, which gives children a fun way to experience the wonders of the Solar System.

Camping theme

Another themed school library idea which transports children’s imaginations out of the classroom. Use a creative themed cushions, wall decorations and maybe a tent to snuggle up inside of if they want a bit of privacy. Add a DIT (child friendly) fire and you’ve got the ideal spot for them to camp out with a book.

Monochrome

This simple monochrome theme provides a sleek, modern look for your classroom library. You can implement inspirational quotes on the wall space. Children may feel more grown-up with this colour scheme, but you can still have fun with the contrasting shapes and patterns.

Celebrate your school’s local area with landmarks

Have you considered highlighting features from your local area? Incorporating landmarks such as the London Eye, Big Ben and Tower Bridge transform a small space into a colourful and vibrant library.

Create an enchanting fairy-tale library

Create a castle incorporating ideas from classic fairy tales and popular children’s books. This would benefit from having bookcases that offered lots of face-out book display.
